Melbourne, Australia, April, 2008 – Creating a sport ATV with the lowest weight, lowest un-sprung weight, most mass centralization and the highest power challenged the Can-Am engineering teams in 2001.
It was a no compromise approach that forced them to push the envelope, totally reinventing everything, from the frame and the engine, to the front and rear suspension systems.
Six years later, the four challenges are mastered and what better way to show off the superb lightweight construction, strength and durability of the Can-Am DS 450TM than to hurtle it 176 feet in the air!
That’s exactly what America’s Jon Guetter did at the Crusty Demons UNLEASH HELL REGIONAL TOUR, “the Night of World Records” in late March, setting a new Guinness ATV Distance Record on a quad at 176ft and 11inches!
With over 26,000 people at the Calder Park Raceway to witness Jon’s attempts at a number of records, it was disappointing to see the weather close in with wind and intermittent rain, resulting in the take-off and ramp areas becoming greasy.
Nevertheless Jon was confident in his Can-Am™ DS450X and its ability to carry him to a new world record!
"All in all it was a good night. I was a little disappointed with the final distance measurement but due to wind and rain it turned out as good as it could” Said Jon after the jump.
“It wasn't my farthest distance jump but it was official and that’s what counts and I’m proud of myself as I was riding a stock Can-Am™ DS450X. How good is this straight out of the box!” Jon continued.
I've now planted the seed of wanting to achieve more distance and with what I learned last weekend I have no doubts by the end of the year me and the Can-Am™ DS450X will be sailing 200ft and beyond.
